  1. At first, navigate to the Control Panel.
  2. Locate the Programs and Features section, double-click on it. 
  3. From the Programs and Features window, scroll down the page and find the Adobe software, select it. Then, click on the Uninstall button. 
  4. Once the process is completed, restart the device and then reinstall it again. 
  5. Visit the official website of the Adobe software and download the latest version of the Adobe software. 
  6. After downloading it, install them properly. 
  7. Once the installation process is done, restart the system and then check if the problem still persists or not.

Solution 2 – Update the Adobe Software

An outdated version of the Adobe software can lead to this error code from the system. So, you can update the software by following these steps:

Solution 3 – Run as the Administrator

  1. Locate the Creative Cloud application, right-click on it. After that, choose the Properties button. 
  2. From Properties window, move to the Compatibility tab and click on the Run this program as an administrator option.
  3. After doing this, click on the Apply button followed by the OK option to save the changes. 

Solution 4 – Install the Latest Version of the Graphics Card Driver

According to the users, an outdated version of the Graphics Card driver can definitely result in the Adobe error 1042. So, it is necessary to keep the driver up to date. Hence, perform these steps:

  1. Press Win + X key together to open the WinX menu list and choose the Device Manager.
  2. On the Device Manager window, locate the Display Adapters section, select it to expand it. 
  3. After that, right-click on the Graphics Card driver and choose the Update Software Driver button.

Solution 7 – Remove the Third-Party Antivirus Application

Sometimes, the security software can also be responsible for this error to appear on your device. So, before updating the Adobe software, you can remove the third-party antivirus application. To do so,

  1. Go to the Control Panel and double-click on the Programs & Features section.
  2. When the Programs & Features window opens, scroll down the page and locate the Third- Party security software, select it.

The Windows firewall can also block Adobe software from updating. Hence, you can turn it off by following these steps:

  1. Launch the Control Panel window and move to the Windows Firewall section.
  2. When the Windows Firewall window opens, click on the Turn Windows Firewall on and off button on the left panel.
  3. On the right window, tick on the Turn Off Windows Firewall (Recommended) button from both Private Network Settings and Public Network Settings sections. 
  4. Click on the Save button to save it. After that, restart the Windows device. 

Solution 9 – Repair the Registry File

Corrupted registry files can also leads to the Adobe error 1042 on the device. So, you have to repair the registry files properly. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Press Win + R buttons to launch the Run box, type Regedit and then press the Enter button or click on the OK option.
  2. From the Registry Editor window, go to the following paths HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf
  3. Right-click on the .pdf from the left panel and choose the Permissions option. 
  4. On the Permissions window, select the Administrators group and mark on the Full Control button.
  5. After that, click on the Advanced button. 
  6. When the Advanced window opens, go to the Owner tab and select the Administrators group and then tick on the Replace Owner On Subcontainers And Objects option. Then, click on the OK button to save it. 

Solution 10 – Update the Operating System

After performing the above steps if the issue still arises, then you have to update the Operating System. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings window and go to the Update & Security section.
  2. Select the Update tab and click on the Check for updates button.
