How To Fix Bluetooth Not Working On Windows 10

If your Bluetooth device is not recognized or does not work correctly on Windows 10, then you are not alone. A lot of users come across this problem of Bluetooth not working on their Windows 10 PC. This problem however annoying is not that hard to fix. Here you can find solutions to help you fix the issue.

Solution 1: Run The Built-In Troubleshooter

The built-in troubleshooter with Windows 10 scans for issues and helps in diagnosing the exact cause of the problem you are facing. To run the troubleshooter follow these steps:

Click Start and open the Control panel. Change the view to ‘by large icons’ and then click on Troubleshooting and choose Hardware and Sound.

Select your Bluetooth device to troubleshoot, the tool will start working and diagnose the nature of the problem you are facing. It will also try to repair any issue with your Bluetooth connectivity by itself. But, if it fails to diagnose or correct the issue, i.e., if your problem persists even after running the troubleshooter, follow the next set of solutions to fix annoying Bluetooth problems on Windows 10.

Solution 2: Update Bluetooth Driver

Your outdated Bluetooth driver may be the root cause of your issue and updating driver can fix related problems. Make sure you login with administrator privileges to make these changes. Follow these steps to update your Bluetooth drivers:

  1. Click on Start button, type in Device Manager
  2. Click on Bluetooth to expand it, and select the Bluetooth device for which you want to update your Windows 10 compatible driver.
  3. Right-click on your Bluetooth device and select Update driver software.
  4. In the next screen, select Search automatically for updated driver software. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to finish updating the Bluetooth driver.
  5. Restart your computer.

Solution 3: Reinstall Bluetooth Driver

If updating the Bluetooth driver does not fix your issue, you can try reinstalling the Bluetooth driver all over again. To do that you first need to uninstall the driver, and on PC restart Windows will reinstall it. You’ll be needed to log in with administrator privileges to make these changes.

  1. Go to Control Panel and select Programs and Features. Right-click on your Bluetooth device from the list and click on Uninstall.
  2. Click on Start button and type Device Manager. Click on Bluetooth and expand it. Again, right-click on your device and click Uninstall.

Solution 4: Enable Bluetooth Services

Now, right-click Bluetooth Support service and open Properties. MOve to the General tab change the Startup type to Automatic. Then, go to the Log On tab and check Local system account and click OK. Then, restart your computer.

Solution 5: Check Power Saving Options

Your power saving settings may be the reason for the Bluetooth not working on Windows 10 problem. Try altering the settings to make it work again. Follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Start button and search for Device manager.
  2. On Device Manager window, locate your Bluetooth device and double-click to access Properties.
  3. In the properties, go to Power Management and uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off Power Saving Mode. Remember to click OK to save the changes.

Solution 6: Disable Airplane Mode

If your PC is in Airplane mode, then you won’t be able to connect other to Bluetooth devices. Disabling the airplane mode will turn on the Bluetooth feature and give you back total control.

Select Settings from the start menu choose Network and Internet. Disable the Airplane mode from the left column and switch-on Bluetooth from the right pane.

Solution 7: Check For Malware

Solution 8: Perform A System Restore

  1. In the Windows 10 search box, type System Restore and select Create a restore point from the result list.
  2. In the System Properties dialog box, click on System Protection tab and click System Restore. Select a restore point before which there were no Bluetooth issues on your PC. Click on Next and follow the instructions to restore your PC.
