Discord is a VoIP app used by several users for chatting purposes. It has a Windows application for Windows users. But sometimes, users often complain that they are encountering several problems while opening this application. 

Sometimes, it displays a class gray Discord window and nothing else. So, if you are also stuck on the same screen, then you need some troubleshooting hacks to get rid of this issue.

Fix 1: Task Kill from Task Manager

If you open the task manager, then you will notice that the discord.exe process is running, So, it’s clear that the Discord is running, but still, it doesn’t pop up on the screen. 

To locate this application, stop the process and then restart it once again. Here are the steps you can follow to kill the background discord process: 

  • First and foremost, press the Ctrl and Esc key by holding the Shift key from the keyboard to open the Task Manager. 
  • Next, navigate to the Process tab and search for the ‘discord.exe’ process by scrolling down the list of options. 
  • Once you get the ‘discord.exe’ process, select it and tap on the ‘End Task’ button.

Note: Although you will see that there is only one ‘discord.exe’ process, some users notice that there are more than one ‘doscord.exe’ process in the list. In that case, select them all and click on the ‘End Task’ button. 

After applying the above steps, you can exit from the Task Manager. Then, relaunch the app to check if it works fine.

  • Press R and Win key simultaneously from the keyboard. 
  • Type “command prompt” and hit the Enter key. 
  • Afterward, type “taskkill /F /IM discord.exe” in the command line. Then, hit Enter to execute the command. 

Once done, it will kill the ‘discord.exe’ process. Wait for a few seconds and then launch it once again and everything will start to work in normal mode as expected.

You can solve this problem by deleting the LocalAppData contents. To do this, you can perform the steps as follows: 

  • First of all, close the Discord application by following the first method. 
  • Afterward, invoke the Run Dialog box and type “%localappdata%” in the Run box.
  • Next, click on the OK button to continue. 
  • Search for the ‘Discord’ option from the list and right-click on it. 
  • Choose the ‘Delete’ option from the contextual drop-down menu. 

Afterward, open Discord and check whether the problem is fixed or not.

Hence, visit the official website of Discord and search for the latest version of Discord. Once you get that, download and install it on the system.

System File Checker is an in-built tool of Windows Operating System that can help you to scan the entire system for corrupted system file. It also has the ability to repair the corrupted system files. Therefore, to run the SFC checker, you can perform the following: 

  • First of all, go to the Start menu.
  • Then, type “command prompt” in the search bar and right-click on the ‘Command Prompt’ option showing as the search result. 
  • Next, choose the ‘Run as Administrator’ option from the list to run the Command Prompt with admin privilege. 
  • Once it opens a Command Prompt window, type “sfc /scannow” in the command line and hit the Enter key from the keyboard to execute the command. 
  • Wait for a few seconds until the process finishes. In case the SFC checker detects any corrupted files, then it will repair that immediately. 

Now, you can exit from the Command Prompt window and open the Discord application.

  • Once the downloading process completes, click twice on the ‘Discord Setup’ executable file. Complete the installation process by following the on-screen prompts.
