Ethernet Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration On Windows 10 [FIXED]

In every system, by default, the dynamic IP configuration is turned on, so no manual settings are needed to connect a network to a DHCP server

However, sometimes, when the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is unable to find a valid IP address from the Network Interface Card (NIC), you might encounter an error message that says “Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration” on the Windows 10 device. 

Once you find this error message, you won’t be able to connect to the internet. 

This problem is mainly caused by incorrect, outdated or faulty network adapter drivers, wrong network configuration, third-party security software or firewall, etc.

At first, restart the device. Sometimes, restarting the device can solve various problems that you have encountered. 

After restarting the system, if the issue still appears then, you can follow the given steps below. One of these solutions will help you to fix the “Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration” error message. Move to the next solution if the previous one doesn’t work.

Solution 1 – Reboot the Router or Modem and Check the Ethernet Cable

Sometimes, this problem arises due to the loose connection. So, check if the connection is properly connected or not. 

So, if you are using a router or the system is connected to the router network or WiFi, then you need to restart the router. To do this:

  1. Switch off the router.
  2. Wait for a few seconds and then switch on the router. 

If you are using an Ethernet cable then disconnect the cable and then reconnect it again. After doing this if the issue is still there, then check if the Ethernet cable is damaged or not. If it is damaged then replace it with a new one and then connect it.

  1. Press Win + X buttons together to launch the WinX menu list and select the Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Type the following commands one-by-one and then press the Enter key after typing each.
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew
  • nbtstat -R
  • nbtstat -RR
  • netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
  • netsh winsock reset
  1. Once these commands are executed, restart the computer and then check if the issue is resolved or not. 
  2. After restarting the device, go to the Control Panel and double-click on the Network and Sharing Center section. 
  3. From the Network and Sharing Center window, click on the Change adapter settings option on the left panel.
  4. Locate the Ethernet hardware, right-click on it. After that, select the Disable option.
  5. After turning it off, right-click on it and then choose the Enable option. 
  6. Once you are done, reboot your PC and check if the issue still appears or not.

  1. Right-click on the Windows icon and select the Network Connections.
  2. On the Network Connections window, locate the network adapter and right-click on it. Then, select the Properties button.
  3. From the Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4) under the “This connection uses the following items:” section and then click on the Properties option.
  4. When you are in the Properties window, click on the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. 
  5. After doing this, if the issue still arises, then select the Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS server addresses. After that, fill up all the details and then click on the Apply option and followed by the OK button to save the changes.

  1. Press the Home button and R key to launch the Run box. 
  2. Type services.msc and then click on the OK button or press the Enter key.
  3. When you are in the Services window, locate the DHCP Client and right-click on it. After that, choose the Properties option.
  4. On the Properties window, set the Startup type to Automatic from the drop-down menu list and then click on the Start option. 
  5. Afterward, click Apply and then the OK button to save it.

  2. Type hdwwiz.cpl and then press the Enter key or click on the OK option.
  3. On the Device Manager window, select the Network Adapters to expand it.
  4. Right-click on the Ethernet card and then select the Uninstall option. 
  5. Once the uninstallation process is done, reinstall the driver.
  6. To install it, go to the Device Manager window.
  7. Click on the scan for hardware changes icon which is located at the top menu bar.
  8. Now the system will find the driver and install it automatically.
  9. After installing the driver, reboot your Windows 10 PC and then check if the error message still persists or not.

  5. From the Properties window, find the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPV6) and then untick it.

  4. Scroll down the page and look for the Third-party antivirus software, select it. After that, click on the Uninstall option.
