What You Should Do If Your Local Area Connection Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration

The IP address or the Internet Protocol is a numerical label which is assigned to the device connected to a computer network. It uses Internet Protocol for communication. If your Local Connection Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration, you won’t be able to use the internet or there will be no internet access. Moreover, if your local connection does not have the valid IP configuration, your internet access will be limited or in some cases, you won’t get the connectivity at all.

Why Your Connection doesn’t have Valid IP Configuration

If your WiFi or the local area connection doesn’t have a valid IP configuration you won’t be able to use your internet or you get very restricted connectivity. This problem occurs as your Network Interface Card fail to obtain a Valid IP address from the DHCP server. That’s why you get no internet access.

There are some causes which are responsible for this issue if your Network Interface Card driver is incompatible. There can be some other problem with the modem or may be some problem with your ISP network. You might face this problem due to your antivirus.

Before you get in touch with a technician you should try the below troubleshooting steps in order to fix the issue.

The Network Adaptor needs to be Re-enabled

To Re-enable this you need to disable the network adaptor at first. After that, you can go ahead and Re-enable it.

The network adaptor stops working and that’s why to fail to obtain a valid IP address from DHCP. So, in that case, you should disable Re-enable the network adaptor. This will help to fix the issue. In order to do that you need to follow the below steps:

  • You have to press Windows key and the letter R key together at the same time. You will get to see a small Run dialog box will appear on the screen.
  • There will be a white panel where you can type in. You need to make that space blank if anything is written there.
  • Now you should type ncpa.cpl and hit the Enter button through your keyboard.
  • A network connection window will pop up on the screen. Right click on the active network adaptor and select Disable option.
  • You have boot your Windows system once and then open the Network Connection window. You need to use the run box by typing the same command ncpa.cpl. But this time you have to select the ‘Enable’ option.

Reset the Network Configuration

You should set the default setup manually in order to get rid of the issue. This will fix incorrect configuration which is actually responsible for this trouble. To do this you need to open the Command Prompt as ‘Administrator’. You should type the following command in the command box.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
netcfg -d
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

After that, you can exit. You should restart the computer to see the effect. This will fix the issue.

Reinstall Your Network Adaptor

The network adapter driver may be outdated and due to that the problem might arise. So in order to fix this issue, you need to reinstall the network adaptor. To reinstall the network adaptor you need to follow the below steps. These are listed below:

  • You have to hold down the Windows logo key and the letter R key together. After that, a run box will pop up on the screen. You need to type devmgmt.msc in the white panel and then hit the OK button through the keyboard.
  • A window will pop up on the screen. You need to find the Network adaptors option and then expand that. Right click on the network adaptor option and then select Uninstall Device.
  • Now visit the manufacturer’s website of your network adaptor. You have to download the latest network adaptor driver and then install the same.
  • Once you install that successfully you need to restart the system and the problem will be resolved.

Edit Network Adaptor Setting

You can also make some change in network adaptor settings option. This can also be a way through which you fix the issue. So to do that you need to follow the below steps:

  • You will get to see a network icon on the taskbar at the right bottom corner of your Operating System. Right click on that network icon and then choose Open Network and Sharing Center.
  • After that, you should select the Change Adapters Settings and proceed with a right click on the network adaptor which you are using and then select the Properties option.
  • Once you click on that Properties option a small window will pop up on the screen. Find the Internet Protocol Version 4 option and double click on that.
  • You should check if both the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.

You Need to Provide Network Connection Value

This is another good and useful technique to resolve if your local area connection doesn’t have any valid IP configuration. You should re-write the value of your connection. To do this you need to follow the guidelines:

  • Open the Command Prompt as administrator and then you should type the config and make a note of that value as you will require that later.
  • You have to press the Window and the R key together in order to get the run box on the screen. After that, you need to type ncpa.cpl and then hit the Enter button through the keyboard. After that, you will get to see the Network connection window on your computer screen. You need to right click on that option and then choose the Properties option.
  • Now click on Configure and move to Advanced tab. You will get to see an option Network Address. After that, you need to put that value which you have noted down.
  • Once you enter that value you need to restart the system and the problem will be resolved.
