Before going to any methods at first, you should restart the system. When you see the Gmail certificate error on the system, you can simply restart your computer. After restarting the system if the issue still appears, then you can try another method. Now, we are going to share easy methods that should help you to fix this particular issue on your PC. Let’s have a look at the given below:

Method 1 – Disable the Security Software

When the security certificate error appears on the screen you need to check whether the third-party antivirus is turned Off or not. Sometimes, the security software can block the Gmail from opening. So, you need to turn Off the security software from your PC. Follow the steps:

Step 1

At first, you need to open the Search box, by pressing the Windows button and S key together. Type ‘third-party security software’, and then hit the Enter button. Alternatively, you can double-click on the third-party application to launch it.

Step 2

When the security software window opens, you need to navigate to the Settings section. In the Settings tab, you can select the Disable button to turn it Off. After doing this, check whether the error message is fixed or not. If it shows up again, then you can simply uninstall it. To uninstall it following these steps:

  1. Firstly, you can press together the Windows button and at the same time, you can press the X key to launch the Menu list. From that list, you can select the Settings application. Alternatively, you need press the Win + I buttons together to open the Settings application.
  2. When the Settings window opens, you need to navigate to the ‘Apps and Programs’ section. In the ‘Apps and Programs’ tab, you will find the Third Party antivirus application, and then select the Uninstall option to remove it from your computer. Once it is done, reboot your PC, and then check if the error message is still present or not. If you find this issue again, then you can try another method.

Method 2 – Check the Date and Time

One of the most common reasons for error messages on this website’s security certificate is the incorrect system clock. If the date and time are set wrong, then you can find the Gmail certificate error on your computer. So, you need to set the date and time correctly. To do that follow these steps:

Step 1

Firstly, you can go to the Search box, type ‘Date and Time’, and then press the Enter button. Alternatively, you can right-click on the WinX button which is located at the bottom left corner to open the Menu list, and then select the Control Panel. In the Control Panel window, you need to double-click on the ‘Time and Date’ tab.

Step 2

From the ‘Date and Time’ section, you need to click on the ‘Change date and time’ button. Now, you can set the correct date and time, and then click on the Apply option to save it. Once it completes, you need to check the error has been fixed.

Method 3 – Disable the “Warn About Certificate Address Mismatch” Button

You can also use this method to fix this issue. Sometimes, you can see the security certificate error on your computer when there is a problem in the security settings. So, you have to check whether the security settings are properly set or not. Follow the undermentioned steps:

Step 1

In the beginning, you need to go to the Search box, type Internet Options, and then hit the Enter button. Alternatively, you can press the Windows button + R key to launch the Run box. In the Run box, type ‘Control Panel’, and then click on the OK option or hit the Enter button. When the Control Panel application opens, you have to double-click on the Internet Options to open it.

Step 2

In the Internet Options, you need to move the cursor to the Advanced tab. In the Advanced tab, you will scroll down the page and find the ‘Warn about certificate address mismatch’ option, unmark it. After completing these steps, you have to click on the Apply option, and then click on the OK button.

Method 4 – Remove the Web Browser and Install It Again

If the previous methods do not help you to fix this issue, then you need to use this method to fix the Gmail certificate error on the system. When this error message occurs you need to remove the web browser and again install it. In order to resolve this issue follow the steps which are mentioned below:

Step 1

Firstly, you can press the Windows home button from the keyboard to open the Menu list and then go to the Search box. In the Search box, type ‘Control Panel’, and then hit the Enter button. Alternatively, you should hold down the Windows Home key and press the X button to open the Menu list and choose the Control Panel application.

Step 2

In the Control Panel application, you can see lots of options are there, find the ‘Programs and Features’ section and double click on it. From the ‘Programs and Features’ section, you can find Google Chrome application and then select the Uninstall option. Now, you can see the uninstallation process has begun.

Step 3

Once it completes, restart the system, and then again download it from the Official website. So firstly, you need to go to the Official website and download the Google Chrome application. Once the download is done, install it. To finish the installation process read the onscreen instructions carefully. Once you are done, restart your computer, and then try to open the Gmail account.

Method 5 – Changing Certificate Revocation Settings

CRL is a list of digital certificates canceled by CA before the expiration date and becomes untrusted. Windows has settings that allow the operating system to revoke the certificate and verify the revocation of the certificate issuer. We will deactivate this feature and see if it resolves the problem. Follow the steps cited hereunder:

Step 1

To launch the Run box, you need to hold down the Windows Home button and press the R key together. Type ‘inetcpl.cpl’ in the Run box, and then click on the OK option or press the Enter button.

Step 2

In the Internet Properties window, you need to go to the Advanced tab. From the Advanced section, you can navigate to the Security section and find the “Check for server certificate revocation” and “Check for publisher’s certificate revocation” options, unmark them. After that, you can click on the Apply option to save the changes.

Method 6 – Change Trusted Sites Settings

An alternative method that we have provided to resolve the Gmail certificate error on the system by changing the trusted sites settings. Following these steps:

Step 1

At first, you need to open the Run box by pressing the Windows button and R key. Type ‘Internet Options’ in the Run box, and then click on the OK button or press the Enter button. Alternatively, you should go to the Search Panel, type ‘Internet Options’, and then hit the Enter button from the keyboard.

Step 2

In the Internet Options, you need to take the mouse to the Security section. From that section, you have to double click on the Trusted sites, and then click on the Sites option.

Step3

When the Trusted sites window opens, you need to type the ‘about: internet’ in the input field, and then select the Add option. After doing this, you can select the Close option.

Method 7 – Install the Latest Operating System

Gmail certificates error appears when you have not updated the Operating System. So, you should update the OS. To update the system follow the directions carefully:

Step 1

Firstly, you have to press the Win + I keys together to open the Settings window. Alternatively, you can get the Settings application from the WinX menu list. To open the WinX menu list, you need to right-click on the Start menu button.

Step 2

When the Settings window opens, you can go to the ‘Update and Security’ tab, select it. In the ‘Update and Security’ section, you can go to the left side panel and find the Update section, click on it. Now, you can see an option ‘Check for Updates’, click on it. Now, the system will check whether any updates are available or not. If you see the update, then you should get an option Update, click on it. Once it is completed, restart the device and then check if the Gmail certificate error still shows up or not.

Method 8 – Turn Off TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2

Your settings on this website sometimes trigger security certificate error. When this problem occurs, the problem may be related to the TLS function. To resolve the issue, you need to turn Off this feature. Following these steps:

Step 1

At first, you should press the Windows button along with the S key to launch the Search Panel, type ‘Internet Options’, and then hit the Enter button. Alternatively, you can go to the Control Panel and find the Internet Options, double click on it.

Step 2

When the Internet Options window opens, you need to take the mouse to the Advanced section. From that section, scroll down the list and find the Use TLS 1.1, Use TLS 1.0, and Use TLS 1.2 features. You need to unmark them. After doing this, you can select the Apply option and then click on the OK button to change the settings. Once you are done, restart the browser and check whether the problem is solved.

Method 9 – Uninstall the Updates

Many users have complained that after installing the latest version of OS, you can see this error message on the system. You should uninstall the update. If you do not know, then here you can know the steps:

Step 1

Firstly, you need to press the Win + R buttons together to open the Run box, type ‘Settings’ and then press the Enter button or click on the OK option. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Start button to launch the WinX menu list. From that list, you can select the Settings application.

Step 2

In the Settings application window, you can go to the ‘Update and Security’ section, and then double-click on the ‘View installed update history’ option. Now, you can see the installed update list will display on the screen. After that, you need to click on the ‘Uninstall updates’ option and then find the recent updates. After finding this, you should double click on that to remove them. After uninstalling this, reboot the system.
